So I wanted to dedicate today to talk about homemaking and how I’m doing with those goals. I’ve been kind of wrapped up in working on fitness and everything, but two of my goals were directly related to homemaking, so I thought I would talk about that today.
So I think the first goal was to establish a home routine. The first home routine I established was too complicated, so I scrapped that and made a much more simple one. While the next home routine was simple, I didn’t feel like I was getting enough done during the day. So I scrapped it once again, and started with something that was simple yet had a few more steps:
Nathalie’s Home Routine
Morning:
- Get up at 6:00 am
- Feed baby
- Put on M’s coffee
- Eat Breakfast
- Get dressed
- Make Beds
- Start a load of laundry
- Wash dishes
- Sweep Floors
- 30 minute declutter
- Fold laundry
- Put dishes away
Evening:
- 1 hour cleaning goal of the day
- 30 minute work out
- 30 minute learning time
- 1 hour quiet time
- Make dinner
- Eat dinner
- Wash dishes
- Put away dishes
- Bathe I
- Bathe O
- Shower
- Wash Face
- Brush Teeth
- Bed at 10:00pm
So it’s not super specific, and some of the things on the evening list should probably be on the morning list (and some of the stuff quiet frankly I shouldn’t have any problem remembering doing). But these are things I have on an app and as I do them, I cross them off, so that I know I’ve done that. The specific goal is to get the morning stuff done before noon, and the evening stuff after noon. Actually, the evening stuff basically schedules the rest of my day. But it’s simple enough so that I don’t get overwhelmed, but not too simple that I get bored, or feel like I don’t get anything done.
As far as tackling the house, I feel like I’ve been getting that done satisfactorily. It’s not happening overnight, and while I could clean that way, it would be stressful, tiring, and would still not help me learn to maintain. In fact, you notice that most of the items on the home routine are maintenance work. I feel like if I establish those maintenance chores now, then I won’t have such issues with them later one. Better to establish them and chip away slowly, than get it all done in a day and never learn how to maintain my home environment.
I’m also trying to learn to be a better wife and mother. Not that I think I’m a bad wife and mother. That’s not true at all. But I could be better. There’s always that potential.
So right now I’m satisfied with my work around the house, and I hope to get it all done eventually. Which reminds me, it’s time to wash dishes. . .
Ah…we have so much in common it’s not even funny! I think we both took that silly fb quiz that said we were strivers…so true. I am always trying to do that much better. Not that I am a bad wife or mother, either…but there is always room to be better, right? I always try to be better at everything…maybe to a fault.
This is almost exactly like my schedule, except I only get up at 6 if Sebastian tells me I am going to be up, haha! In fact…I even do something I call “quick clean” where I clean the bare minimum in the house and it takes about 30 minutes. Then one day a week I do what I call “super clean” where I catch up on the stuff I didn’t do all week…vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing the bathroom, etc.
Oh…and I have made a new rule for myself. I don’t go to bed or even allow myself “me time” at night until the dishes are in the dishwasher and the living room is cleaned. It has helped my moods int he morning immensely!
Tell me how your evening workouts go…I have thought about doing that but I am scared it will keep me up all night and I get so little sleep as it is.
Good luck on your schedule. You can do it!
I have lists like this all over the place! Feels good to cross stuff off the list!! I like Quinn’s idea of making sure the dishes are done before bedtime, I know it makes my mornings so much better!
